Supporting my assertion that XBRL is quickly becoming an integral part of reporting and accounting recent news from the 19th XBRL International Conference in Paris has indicated that advocates of the concept are looking to expand its reach beyond the Financial Industry. In doing so they've targeted the Banking, Insurance and Securities Industries as suitable realms for XBRL and its associated reports; this comes as no surprise to me as the project is exactly what the middle class has been demanding since the global recession began.
Why is this of no surprise to me? Primarily because the American public has been demanding a more revealing set of business statements for years, reports that they can easily access and have meaning....yet only now in the wake of the recession does any progress get made.
It's a little offensive that it requires such dire circumstances to motivate reform, but that's been true for most of modern human existence.
Anyways, just wanted to write a quick paragraph about this and post a link to the latest press release detailing this issue: XBRL for Banking, Insurance and Securities Industries Expanding Globally
